First of all I want to thank all the people who submitted an entry for the North American Paint-A-Figure Challenge. We ended up having some excellent works displayed and several of them were good enough to win. We are currently in deliberations as to who the final winner will be, but I hope to notify that person later today. After the winner has been emailed, I'll post it here, the ASA forum, and the ISF forum.

I want to encourage you all to continue your painting and to post them in our Custom Painted Team thread here on the SLSL forum. At this point, I think we'll take a break, but I hope that we'll have another painting contest in the future.

And the winner is...

Larry Fryer from Maryland Subbuteo Club. In a very close vote Larry's 2006 USA World Cup team won the judges over. The detail on the stripes, numbers, names, socks, and shoes was the clincher. There were a couple of others that were almost winners, but we kept coming back to the USA kit. Congratulations Larry, well done.

For his efforts, Larry wins a set of 11 Stefan Corda bases in his choice of color and 11 blank 2K4 figures. Hopefully he'll create another masterpiece with his prize.

Again I want to thank everyone who participated in this event and hope that if we ever have another you'll all enter again.

*PS- if we ever have a decal contest, Jon Schultz will be hard to beat. Wink

Post subject: Painting contest
Subject description: Thanks for the honors

I am honored by the panels selection of my work as the winner of the subbuteo painting challenge. I saw there were many worthy entries, particularly the Canadian entry on the eve of the contest. That was very impressive. Thanks for acknowledging my work. I estimate it took me 15 hours to paint the USA kit, with the numbers and names included. I'm currently working on a 1975 Washington Diplomats away kit to compliment the team I'll be flicking with in the Image is Everything tournament in June. See all you guys there, and thanks again. To all you painters out there, keep up the great work! I love hand-painted figures, and special thanks to the Stefan Corda Company for sponsoring this contest. Neil is one hellavu painter!

Congratulations Larry!

I'm not surprised at all by the decision, the detail in your work is simply amazing.

We didn't, but thank you for your compliments.
Congratulations Larry, excellent work.

Well done to everyone else too, there is some superb work on show here, tough one to judge and I didn't relish Brad's task!

Yes, to be clear, Stefan Corda was not a sponsor of the event. They were however an inspiration since Neil judged the first contest over on the ISF. (and because they make the finest blank playing figures in the world- shameless suck-up Very Happy )

Also, as far as judging goes, I had some input from a few others and if it got ugly and people would have rioted- I would have given them Jeff's name as the real culprit. Wink

Excellent work Larry.

This is one of Luis Silva's works:

Pre-decal work:

Another great painter is Michael Tillman.

By the way, I'm looking for someone to make a St Pauli for me.

very nice paint jobs.

As far as commissioning a team, the list of suspects is right here in this thread. Jeff Drake, Larry Fryer, John Fairley, Wayne Smith, Iougs, etc...

Who is St. Pauli and what do their kits look like?

I could be interested. Rolling Eyes

That's the one I found too. It looks like their AWAY kits are CAMO though. I saw some site where you could vote on the color of the away kit for next year but it still looked like a camo print....

Luis Silva's painting is very nice! Thanks for posting that kit! I just finished painting a Celtic kit today, which turned out pretty nice. I sent a photo of it to Jeff Drake to post if he wishes.
